Notes About the List
Editions & Dates: Precedence is given to first
editions in the United Kingdom, although in most cases the dates
are the same for US publications, within a few months. UK titles
are given as the primary exemplars, and US titles as variants,
with the exception of Deadly Duo / Take Two at Bedtime -
as these appear to have been published less than a year apart
(not ten years as I originally thought), with the US edition
being first, and the current edition carrying the latter title,
both have been included for the sake of clarity (I hope). My
primary sources for edition information are B. A. Pike's study
Campion's Career and Richard Martin's Ink in Her Blood
(more about those on the Bibliography
page).
Omnibus?: The note 'Omnibus' after a title indicates
that the volume contains multiple novels (I mention this solely
for those who have, somehow, never before encountered the term).
Of course, The Margery Allingham Omnibus is not noted as an omnibus,
as this seems needlessly pedantic. Clicking on the links (where
available) will provide you with the contents of each volume.
PYC?: The legend 'PYC' denotes stories written by Philip
Youngman Carter after Margery Allingham's death, based upon her
outlines. The legend 'MA/PYC' appears only on 'Cargo of Eagles',
which was begun by Margery and completed by Youngman Carter after
her death.
Writing as Maxwell March?: I have only ever read about
two of these three books, published under the March pseudonym
in the 1930s. They appear to be quite uncommon, and are rather
expensive when they do pop up on the market. Currently, I have
only an old US edition of Rogue's Holiday in my collection,
and minimal information on the two remaining titles.
