Comments Hi - from one GUlf War Vet to another. I was with the infantry and artillery, 2 Jan 90 to 4 May 91. Yeah, I KNEW they were B.S.ing us too, that, or the Army gave us 100 Percent defective batteries in our chemical alarm detectors! Course, that wouldn't explain the fact we ALL came back sick and continued to get worse as time went on, with not one of us getting better. I sympathize with you: because I have the same crap. Well, like you, I managed to get 100 percent VA (unemployability), BUT THE FUNNY THING IS: THEY REFUSED EVERY SINGLE THING THAT EVEN SOUNDED LIKE IT MIGHT BE GULF-RELATED! I couldn't even get a janitors job ("you might be allergic to the cleaning chemicals") I also applied for Social Security and got it because of Narcolepsy (fainting spells, tired all the time, falling asleep with no notice). I realized my Army career was going nowhere after my PT scores dropped from 273 to less than 200. Having trouble keeping up on the squad and company runs. The Army medically boarded me with a big fat ZERO percentage disability

Comments I served in the Gulf War and too found my self sick. Before my discharge from the Army I was diognostic with some sort of strand Muscle in my chest. I was needless to say discharged with honorable condition. Then no more then one Month later hospitalize for some unknown illness. (Lungen disorder) I am now catorgorized with a 60% disability from the VA. Our beloved Army is of course in denial. Because of this I am unable to recieve any benifis other then what VA has granted. I solute VA for their help in this manner. I hope that they recieve more aid from Congress to facilitate this matter.

Comments I am the widow of a Gulf War Vet. He served on the USS Elmer Montgomery in the Red Sea. After suffering horrible, debilitating pain on a daily basis, he took his own life two weeks ago today. I would especially be interested in hearing from anyone from the ship he served on. Also, I would like to somehow keep fighting the fight for recognition of Gulf War Syndrome. I just don't know where to start. My husband is in a better place now and is pain-free finally, but I know there are others who are suffering and I wouldn't wish the experience we have been through on my worst enemy. Contact me with any info.

Comments Massachusetts Author Bares His Soul in Memoir on Operation Desert Storm, The Unexpected Storm: The Gulf War Legacy Massachusetts’ native, Steven Manchester, is proud to announce the release of his new book, The Unexpected Storm: The Gulf War Legacy- just in time for the 10 year anniversary of Operation Desert Storm. Based on his trying experiences during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, Manchester graphically details life as a U.S. Army M.P. in Iraq. “My perspective of the Gulf War was very different from the sanitized version CNN opted to show,” said Manchester, “up close…we witnessed many children slaughtered by land mines. I’ve always felt people should know how it really was!” Such brutal depictions in this memoir are evidence of the hefty costs associated with freedom and the price paid to heal America from the poltergeist of Vietnam. Packed with raw emotion, The Unexpected Storm is Manchester’s personal account of his experiences before, during and after the 100 hours of ground fighting in the Middle East. It is a com
