We Pledge Our Allegiance as children in school
And then we are taught that old Golden Rule
We learn about pride and how freedom rings
That justice will serve in all of these things
They say to be proud of wars we have won
Let's take a good look at what they have done
There's Saudi, Korea and Viet Nam too
But lets not forget World War 1 and 2
Yet also there's others that ask for our aide
Because we are strong and they're so afraid
They say we are called the land of the free
But I'm not so sure I really agree
You see, we're the ones who's paying the cost
Of all who have died and bodies now lost
Yet right here at home our war's never end
We fight to survive and pray that we win
The drugs and abuse are out there each day
And racism still has not gone away
It's almost as though we've learned to accept
The promises made that never are kept
There's people that live in boxes out there
With no food to eat and no-one to care
We saw Waco held with flames all around
And children have guns they're not putting down
A bombing took lives of babies that day
It also took mothers and fathers away
There's times I can see that shiny black wall
With names of the ones I don't know at all
I see the white crosses on graves that they share
Yet nobody knows who's buried in there
Then high on a pole "Old Glory" will wave
With honor and pride above every grave
It seems man has made his own destiny
He's eaten once more from Satan's sweet tree
And look what this knowledge has taught everyone
That we should be proud of wars we have won
If we can take men and travel in space
Then why can't we heal our own human race
It's still up to us if we really care
PLEASE wake up "AMERICA" we're dying out there

Today I was reminded of what time could not erase
As I walked through the halls I felt a sadness in this place
A building filled with history our books will never see
Their stories are the pages locked inside their memory
It's one of many you will find that's scattered everywhere
These people come here hoping to receive the proper care
I saw a few in wheelchairs and so many used a cane
Some walked just fine but in their eyes was where I saw the pain
These Heroes have been marked for life all here surrounding me
They've shed their blood while other's died to keep this country free
I still remember stories of a war my dad went through
Each one was told with Army Pride he called it "World War II"
And later "The Korean War" forced troops to say good-bye
Because Korea's North and South could not see eye to eye
Then "Viet Nam" decided to raise up it's ugly head
Like all the wars, the damage left so many people dead
When troops came home they had to face another kind of war
A "War of Words" that added wounds as if they needed more
The latest war was televised for all the world to see
Called "Operation Desert Storm" performed so perfectly
This war had ended quickly but our troops cannot forget
They're constantly reminded that the "Storm's" not over yet
These wars do not discriminate religion, sex or race
The bombs, grenades and poison gas take lives we can't replace
And weapons don't have boundaries they claim what's in their way
What will it take to stop these wars right here, right now, today
Our troops are thought so highly of when they are called to war
But when it's over they are not remembered anymore
And what about the one's still lost are they forgotten too?
Is anyone still searching for the one's who fought for you
These men and women suffer more than you will ever know
When war is over they still fight a war that doesn't show
Each one deserves the very best for what they have been through
Your proof is V. A. Hospitals I'm sure there's one near you
We all want Peace and Harmony but something's always wrong
These buildings might become extinct if we could get along
My husband fought the last two wars which stole the heart he had
He wears that look of war abuse just like my precious dad
I don't have all the answers but I know one thing for sure
The anger has to leave before a healing can occur
America is free because of Veterans today
And more of them still yet to come will also have to pay
So when you exercise your rights remember Why you can
You see, I can't forget because I am "The Veteran"

I dedicate this to every Veteran, past, present and future. "God Bless You"

No more of the sand the heat and the wind
Our Soldiers are home Desert Storm's at an end
They're homecomings were so special to see
This time it is different the way it should be
Airports were filled with so many there
To show all our soldiers just how much we care
So yes it's all over for us left behind
But it's never over in that soldier's mind
The death and destruction each one had to view
It's sad all the damage and pain they go through
I cannot imagine how each one must feel
Just having to go through such an ordeal
Disruption of life and loneliness too
Still doing the job they're sent there to do
A smile on their face is what you will see
Courageous are them with this memory
The mind can't forget what hearts must endure
For things such as this there isn't a cure
It's harder for some they served in "Nam" too
How much can they take in war number two
So brave is the soldier that's hurting inside
Emotions run deep because of their pride
I'm sure there is someone you knew over there
Remember them always in your special prayer
They still fight a war that we'll never see
These soldiers stand taller for you and for me
Please pray that we keep the peace every day
So soldiers don't suffer "The Price They Will Pay"

A Note From Scott O'Hara :
There are a variety of award winning poems, ranging from "War" to "Having Faith". The books are $7.00 ea. but this doesn't include shipping. Shipping is about $2.00 extra.
Another great piece of information about this collection and the author is that she does NOT keep the money and proceeds from the sale of her poetry. She donates it the Epilepsy Foundation. As Freda herself says. "I feel that God gave me this gift and to keep the money is just wrong."
Reading these poems brought so many feelings forward into my mind and I am sure that anyone who reads this collection will surely be moved the same way I was.
